How to Spend 24 Hours on Tybee Island

By: Brittany Howard

Only 24 hours on Tybee Island? No, say it ain't so! Eh, that's okay; we'll make the most of it.

Whether you arrive in the morning, mid-day or evening, we'll show you how to indulge in Tybee Island when you're on borrowed time.

Book a Beach Cottage

Nothing says beach town like resting in an authentic beach cottage. Our extended families at Mermaid Cottages, Tybee Vacation Rentals, Oceanfront Cottage Rentals and Tybee Beach Vacation Rentals are more than happy to accommodate.

Is it even a question? Of course, you'll relax on one of Tybee Island's five beaches or, if time allows, two! Thanks to the island's delightful coastal temperatures, cool salt water and laid-back ambiance, you might have an hour to spare after a cozy nap under your umbrella. Hey, it happens.

Tour the Island Via Bike or Golf Cart

Go ahead and park your car; you won't need it. Tybee Island is only 3.19 miles, making it easy to get from one end of the island to the other. While those with more time could easily walk, you'd benefit from some "island wheels." Bikes and golf carts are a way of life around here due to their convenient "parking," plus you still get the best views of the island. Tybee Island Bike Rentals and TIMS Bikes, Beach Gear & Disc Golf can equip you with two wheels, while Coast to Coast Beach Rentals will have you putting your foot on the gas of your golf cart in no time (pun intended).

Stuff Your Face

No one steams shrimp, cracks crab legs, serves oysters on a half shell, batters chicken, flips a burger, serves a cocktail or beer (you see where we're going with this), etc., like Tybee Island. It's okay that you've had "similar" dishes before; rest assured, Tybee Island dining is worth fitting into your 24-hour schedule. You'll be eating the entire time anyway.

Explore and Shop Local Keepsakes

Drop by the Visitor's Center for genuine off-the-beaten-path suggestions. Tap into island history at the Tybee Island Lighthouse and brush up on your Civil War trivia at Fort Pulaski. Squeeze in a bit of shopping at The Shoppes at 1207 and Tides Of Time By Childs Play. There's a print with your name on it at Casey Jones Photography & Tybee Gallery or put your creative hands to work at one of the Irritable Pelican Gallery & Pelican's Palette's artisan workshops.

Watch the Sun Rise or Set

The best parts of the day are when the sun waves good morning and blows a kiss goodnight. The brilliant watercolor that's painted across our coastal skies is breathtaking. You'll want to find a great spot on the Tybee Pier & Pavillion, the beach or relax on the scenic marsh.

Wow, that 24 hours went by like that! Thank goodness you're returning soon. Let's say next week? Sounds like a plan.
